Training and Licensing

An architect is a licensed, registered professional whose skills span form aesthetic composition, to building within code, to checking the steel placement in the footings.  Architects are required to have a professional degree from an accredited school.  They must also have three years of supervised internship under a registered architect.  The next step to become an Architect is an examination that covers a variety of topics including design, site design, structure, building systems, building code, and professional practice.  Michigan State Law requires that all work done on buildings (except single-family dwellings under 3500 square feet) be under the seal and signature of a licensed architect or engineer.
